Palheiro Golf, MadeiraThere are two golf courses on Madeira: Palheiro Golf (18 holes) and Santo da Serra Golf Club (3 x 9 holes). Both have excellent golfing conditions with spectacular views across the landscape and down to the sea. Please let us know if you wish to play golf at either Club, and we will book it for you.

Palheiro Golf is situated some 10 km East of Funchal with magnificent views overlooking the town and bay. It is set within the stunning 200 year old Palheiro Estate. The 18-hole par 72 course was designed by Cabell Robinson; in 2003, a 6 hole academy course was created. The result is a stunning 18 hole challenge with breathtaking views, fast undulating greens, well placed bunkers and tight fairways that reward accurate play.

Palheiro Golf winds around the Palheiro Estate which is famous for its pine forests, centennial trees, flowering shrubs and lush vegetation. The Palheiro Golf clubhouse, perched 500 meters above sea level, boasts a panoramic terrace which commands unlimited views of the Funchal harbour and the Atlantic Ocean. There is also an excellent restaurant.

Santo da Serra golf course, Madeira

Santo da Serra Golf Club is situated above the bay of Machico, where the first Portuguese sailors disembarked, in the South-East part of the island. This is about a 20 minute drive from Funchal. The original course, constructed in 1937, was redesigned in 1991 by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones. He created a spectacular and completely new 27 hole course integrated into one of the most beautiful locations created by nature.

The Club has three courses of each 9 holes: the Machico and Desertas Courses, with some more challenging parts, and the Serras Course, mildly flat, maintaining the same level of play. With four optional tees at each hole, the player is offered various levels of play enabling straightforward, relaxing rounds as well as more challenging ones. This is the reason Santo da Serra annually hosts the Madeira Open, a tournament on the PGA European Tour. The courses are adorned with four beautiful lakes surrounded by trees.

The Clubhouse, with its lounge, restaurant, and bar is an excellent place to relax before or afterwards; it has a terrace with a view across the practice areas. The shop offers all kinds of golfing merchandise as well as the possibility to rent golfing equipment. The Club supplies buggies and trolleys as well as a buggybar service.
